Why is people believe others of other faiths are "evil"?

I have met a lot of people of different faiths then mine ,that believe I am “evil “ ,just because I dont believe that most of this earths religions are right . I don’t believe the creator is happy to see Its/his/hers creations killing each other for a dumb reason such as being a little different. The Christians ,Jews, and Muslims have been killing each other sense the dawn of their existence , and every one of them has tried to kill off the pagans of the region .Where does it say in the bible, the Quran ,or the Tora, that gods people must try genocide on the other religions just because they believe in a different path to the god/goddess/the creator/energy that gave life ? In my research of religons I have come to find most of them are similar. Why are the religous outcasts “Evil” in others eyes ? Why to the Christians are the Pagans so bad?

God is not a personality people! god cant actually tell people things a lot of the things in the bible especially the old testiment are more of just stating history not rules to live by, things like jesus’s teachings or the ten commandment’s were those, adviceseeker you arn’t evil you just have your own point of view, I’m studying to be an anglican minister and I don’t believe any religion is wrong because wright and wrong are only seen in the eyes of the beholder, I find different religions are just different interpritations of the same thing, the essence of life aka God

Answer #2

Most people want to believe what suits them, not really what the bible teaches. For instance Jesus said in Matthew 24:14 that the good news would be preached for a witness to all nations, and in Matthew 28:19,20 Jesus commanded his followers to go and make disciples, for how long, it says to do it even to the end of the world, so how many christian faiths do that? Only those who truely follow christ. Therefore those who do not want to do the preaching, think that the ones who do it are evil.

To be honest, Christianity in my experience is the “religious outcast” of today. I know most people would disagree, but theres been a massive increase in people rebelling against what has just always been handed to them, Christianity, as well as an increase in religious tolerant people who also still have that rebel against Christianity thing sitting on their shoulder. people feel they are not conforming by being atheist or such, meanwhile everyone else is thinking the same way. as far as the religious tolerant people, that should include Christianity but it usualy doesnt. but to answer your question, if someone is very religious no matter what that religion is, its part of their religion to believe that is the correct and only way. so I dont think they think others are evil, but if you agree we should be religiously tolerant you have to agree theyre allowed to act like theyre still right, its all included. you cant say, you can believe this if you want but you have to act like you dont. just giving my opinion : )

You said: ‘’Where does it say in the bible, the Quran ,or the Tora, that gods people must try genocide on the other religions just because they believe in a different path to the god/goddess/the creator/energy that gave life?’’

You’re kidding, right? After three minutes of searching, I’ve come up with these Biblical geonocides totally and completely based on faith:

‘’When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you may nations…then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.’’ Deuteronomy 7:1-2, NIV. 1

After wandering in the desert for four decades, God ordered the Hebrews to invade the promised land and totally exterminate ‘’the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites ‘’Do not leave alive anything that breaths. Completely destroy them…as the Lord your God has commanded you…’’ Deuteronomy 20:16, NIV. 1

‘’Thus saith the LORD of hosts … slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and a$$.’’ Samuel 15:2-3

I haven’t even hit a third of the Old Testament yet.

This problem is caused by the concept of faith, which is a fallacious way of thinking.

Once you decide that you can obtain knowledge just by believing something is true, then any idea that undermines that “knowledge” becomes a threat to belief. People who accept the wrongheaded idea of faith become too emotionally attached to their beliefs and can not bear the pain of the idea of being wrong. It’s easier to kill ‘heretics’ than it is to admit that a cherished belief upon which your entire social structure is based…might be wrong.

Those who live by reason don’t face this problem. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong…and I probably am. I welcome any opportunity to be proven wrong, because if I am proven wrong, that’s one less dead end to go down on the quest for truth.

Answer #6

Well your being a bit extreme saying people in general think your evil because, not everybody is the same. But I do agree that some people can go a bit over board with their belief and complety outcast those who aren’t part of their religion. But that doesn’t go for everyone the majority of people are happy to believe in what they believe in and let others do the same… Xo:)

Answer #7

Because to acknowledge the atrocities is to question the RIGHT of said religion’s place in the world. Let’s face it: of those, Catholic / Muslim’s would have next to zero followers if it weren’t for the atrocities.

However, to acknowledge that the people, today, who believe in those, only believe because of past murder…it’s a bit much for most to stomach.

Answer #8

This isn’t necessarily true of all people. Once again it is more the extremists. Some people are more accepting of other faiths than others. I’ve met both.

Answer #9

because they are not open to other ideas, they shut themselves off to other religions, x

Answer #10

Religion is divisive and leads to inter faith and non believer resentment? Well I never! ;)
