Got anoyher dog question
About six months ago my puppy jumped out the truck window and uinjued his back right leg.I only had enough money for antibiotics and pain meds not xrays. He seemed to heal fine and is constantly jumping all around. He is 15 months old now. Yesterday I took him to get groomed and noticed that the back right knee sticks out the wrong way and I can feel that it didn’t heal right . Even though he acts healthy and happy do you think he’s in pain or will have problems as he gets older? Also, is it to late to have fixed now?
not necessarily.. I had a dog once who broke his pelvis and back legs when he was run over by a car.. they couldn’t cast them of course.. and when he healed from the break he healed completely.. just a little crooked lol.. he lived to the ripe old age of 17 and never had any issues.. so I’d say as long as he got a lot of tender loving care and couch time he won’t have any issues.. although if he’s a big breed he may end up with arthritis.. although I do agree that he needs xrays to make sure its not something more serious or something totally unrelated to the fall.
If he doesn’t act as tho he’s in pain, then I’d say no…he’s probably not in pain at this time…However, this is a perfect setup for arthritus in the future. I, too…would get xrays done, just to see what…and how much damage there is, so as he ages, changes in the joint compared…and meds given to keep pain at bay.
The fact that you took him to the Vet at the time of the accident, says to me, that tho you couldn’t afford xrays, the Vet did examine the leg…finding no broken bones or dislocation…what you’re seeing right now, may have NOTHING to do with the original injury.
p
yea he’ll hve problems when he gets older… because smething similar hppened 2my dog & my mom nver took the poor thing 2oo the vet… he looked fine but one day the pain caught up w/him..he wasnt able 2get up to eat or anything, so please tke your puppy 2oo the vet idnt want him 2oo die too…
Yes to he is most likly in pain, and yes it will create problems as he gets older. I would get that x-ray. It may be to late if the bones healed incorrectly. But if you get the x-ray done you can atleast know what the next step is.
