im so confused.. is my dad crazy? I mean he walks into a room a lot and thinks theres somthing burning, and he starts shouting to my mum ‘come down here theres somthing burning!!!’ my mum smelt nothing, nor did I really loud and quite franticly.. he always does this once he accused me of smoking in my bedroom because he cud smell smoke apperently.. and it alwyas seems to me around em he smells this smoke wich is also odd, hes 50 so hes not that old, but why does he smell things burning in my house all the time?

Answer #1

He could be having “olfactory hallucinations”, which basically means that he can smell something that isn’t really there. He should probably go and see the doctor about hallucinating scents or smells to see what can be done for him, although I don’t know much about it.

Answer #2

It could be paranoia, or it could be neurological.

He should think about seeing a neurologist to rule out the possibility of it being some sort of petit mal seizure.

Epileptics have varying signs of seizure. Some smell things (burning, pencil shavings, etc.), others (like myself) have visual signs ( I always see a ferris wheel before I have a seizure).

if it turns out that it isn’t neurological, then he may be displaying signs of paranoia, and should see a psychologist.

Answer #3

The person above is right. Your dad might have those problems mentioned above.
